LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Arkansas State Plant Board today approved changes to the state's rice seed certification regulations to require the testing of rice seed for genetically engineered traits for the 2010 season.

"Removing the Liberty Link trait is critical to the economic health of the Arkansas rice industry," said Marvin Baden, chairman of USA Rice Federation's EU Trade Policy Subcommittee and senior VP of Producers' Rice Mill.

"The USA Rice Federation applauds the leadership of the Plant Board in removing the Liberty Link trait and supports today's action," said Bob Cummings, USA Rice senior vice president, who spoke at today's public hearing in addition to Baden and Greg Yielding of the Arkansas Rice Growers Association.
